UC receives 250,000 applications

The University of California has received more than 250,000 applications for the fall 2024 semester, a 1.5 percent year-over-year increase driven by an increase in applications from transfer students and California residents.

Forty-seven percent of the first-year applicants were from groups that traditionally have been underrepresented in higher education, a 2.7 percent uptick from one year ago, according to a report released March 6 by the UC Office of the President.

“We are pleased to see such an outstanding pool of students from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences apply to the University of California,” said Michael V. Drake, UC president, in the statement. “The increase in applications underscores the quality of the educational experience, and the long-term social mobility, a UC education can provide.”

UC Riverside, one of nine campuses in the UC system, received 69,462 applications: 57,420 from first-year applicants and 12,042 from transfers, the report stated.
