UCR again recognized for social mobility

UC Riverside has again been named the top university in the United States for social mobility by U.S. News & World Report.
This is the fourth consecutive year the university has achieved that ranking, which is based on to what extent a school’s low-income graduates achieve a higher standard of living, according to a statement on the university’s website.

Specifically, the publication looks at Pell Grants, which are typically given to families that earn less than $65,000 a year. Nearly half of UC Riverside’s enrollment of 27,000 in the fall of 2021 received a Pell Grant.

UC Riverside has been number one among all universities, public and private, in the social mobility category since the magazine began compiling it four years ago. This year it was second overall to Keiser University, a private college in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. with an undergraduate enrollment of nearly 18,000.

UC Riverside was 38th among public universities and 89th in the overall rankings in U.S. News’ 2022-23 list, which included nearly 400 universities.

Cal State State San Bernardino ranked 10th among public universities and 13th overall in social mobility, and tied for 194th overall.

Princeton, Harvard and MIT were ranked in the top three overall universities in the United States.
