UCR get $1.1 million grant

UC Riverside has received a $1.1 million grant that will help students who are the first in their family to attend college.

The grant from the Judy and Fred Wilpon Family Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies will allow UC Riverside to continue participating in the Kessler Scholars Collaborative, according to a statement on the university’s website.

Students in the program receive a $500 quarterly scholarship for up to four years. The program includes academic advising, peer mentorship, and chance for career development.

The renewal grant ensures the program’s continuation, expansion, and assessment through 2030. Twenty-five first-year students at UC Riverside entered the program three years ago, according to the statement.
