Victorville to mark long-planned road extension project

Victorville will celebrate the completion of the Green Tree extension with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this month.

The event, which is open to the public, is scheduled to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 20 on the recently constructed Green Tree Bridge, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Entrance to the ceremony will be via Coad Road, just south of Hesperia Road and Green Tree Boulevard. The Victor Valley Transit Authority will operate shuttle buses from the parking, which is about one-half mile from the event location.

“We have been proud to carry the torch of the visionaries who first imagined this monumental project 50 years ago,” said Victorville Mayor Debra Jones in the statement. “We couldn’t be more excited to build this new east-west corridor for the benefit of the Victor Valley.”

The project, which is near completion, will connect Victorville and Apple Valley by lengthening Green Tree Boulevard about a mile and a half from Hesperia Road to Ridgecrest/Yates Road, according to the statement.

  1. It’s about time. I grew up here and it was supposed to be done back in the early 80s and put into the storage shed for other non essential projects like so many others. The local government in the high desert has ALWAYS made bad decisions like this. However, now! This will help with the traffic. Thank you to those responsible for getting this done. But unfortunately this will create the new issues of overcrowding the remaining desert in that stretch of natural habitat that should be left alone and not destroyed by the greed developers that exist . My old childhood playground will be gone in a few short years I am sure.
