Victorville Wellness Center to open

Victorville will open its $28 million wellness center on Dec. 8.

The facility, a key element in the city’s attempt to reduce homelessness, has 110 modular units and a minimum of 170 beds, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The project at 16902 First St. sits on 4.5 acres of city-owned land. It includes recreational facilities, a community garden, and a dog kennel.

It was built primarily with a Homekey Grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development.

“We are proud to be among the cities taking action to address the issue of homelessness head-on,” said Victorville Mayor Debra Jones in the statement. “Our Victorville Wellness Center is the result of collaboration from our community, including task force members and community organizations who helped us envision a center … to break the cycle of homelessness.”

Guided tours are scheduled to be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 8 and noon to 5 p.m. on Dec. 9. For information visit vv.city/wcopenhouse.
