Website casts light on Perris finances

Perris has introduced a website that provides greater access to the city’s budget and spending practices.

The Open Government platform, which began last month, is designed to increase transparency by making available past and present city budgets, as well as monthly check dispersals, the city’s capital improvements program and other financial reports, according to a statement.

The site can be reached by visiting www.cityofperris.org and clicking on “City Financials” on the home page.

“People have got to know how taxpayer money is being spent,” Mayor Michael Vargas said in the statement. “We all need to be held accountable. [It’s] all about trust and being open with our constituents.”

Perris has long made its annual budget available to the public, and it has won awards for financial transparency, Vargas noted.

“[This is] an extension of what we have previously been doing,” he said.
