Feeding America Riverside/San Bernardino has received a $12,000 donation that will be used to help feed some of the neediest people in the Inland Empire.
The grant, from the Darden Restaurants Inc. Foundation in Orlando, Fla., is an unrestricted grant that will likely end up with several categories of recipients, including homeless families and low-income school children, according to a statement.
One in nine people, including one in four children, in the Inland region suffer from hunger, said Lori Butler, the local food bank’s philanthropy director.
“Hunger does not discriminate, and there are many children, families and seniors who turn to our food bank for help,” Butler said in the statement. “The Darden Foundation’s donation will go a long way for the people in our community.”
Feeding America is a non-profit network of more than 200 food banks nationwide. The Riverside/San Bernardino chapter distributes more 2.5 million pounds of food every month.
