Today JetBlue will begin service between New York and Ontario International Airport for the first time in 10 years.
The low-cost airline is scheduled to land a flight from JFK International at Ontario International shortly before 10 p.m. local time, according to a statement released by JetBlue.
The New York-based airline last served Ontario International between 2000 and 2008. It announced in April that it was returning, citing the surge in customer demand at Ontario International and the airport’s growth in stature among Southern California airports.
“This is a great day for our airport and region as we welcome back JetBlue and its nonstop service to New York,” said Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority, in the statement.
“Their return has been highly anticipated by business and leisure travelers and shows that Ontario is the place to be in Southern California aviation.”
Ontario will be the 10th city JetBlue serves in California.
The New York-based airline operates about 1,000 flights a day between 103 cities and carries approximately 40 million passengers a year.
All Ontario flights will be on JetBlue’s Airbus A320 aircraft and will include SIRIUSXM radio, DIRECTV and high-speed wireless internet, according to the statement.
