Talbert steps down as Corona CM

Darrell Talbert has resigned as Corona’s city manager.

In closed session, the city council unanimously approved Talbert’s resignation and a release agreement effective Wednesday, according to a statement.

Assistant City Manager Michele Nissen will serve as acting city manager while the council looks for an interim city manager. Following that appointment, the council plans to conduct a nationwide search for Talbert’s permanent successor.

Terms of the release agreement were not disclosed.

The search for a permanent city manager is expected to take several months, according to the statement.

“Mr. Talbert has accomplished too many things during his career in Corona to adequately summarize them and do him justice, but it goes without saying that his love of this community will be felt here for decades to come,” Mayor Jason Scott said in the statement. “He has served the city through many tough times, and I speak for the entire City Council in stating that we wish him well and thank him for his dedication and service to our community.”

A lifetime Corona resident, Talbert was elected to the council in 1994 and served 12 years, including three terms as mayor. He was also deputy director of community development, redevelopment director, administrative services director and assistant city manager.

Talbert was city manager for the last four years.
