San Bernardino chooses reform panel

A nine-member panel that will study and possibly recommend changes to San Bernardino’s city charter has been appointed.

The group, which was announced Monday, has until May 19 to recommend any changes to the City Council if those changes are to be included on the November ballot, according to a report first published in the San Bernardino County Sun.

No meeting has been scheduled. Some have blamed the city’s political and economic woes, including its 2012 bankruptcy filing, on flaws in the city charter. No meeting has been scheduled, and city officials must still select a specialist in city charters and municipal reform that will aid the committee at an estimated cost of $30,000, according to the report.
