Three Apple Valley parks to get recycled water

Construction has begun on a project that will bring recycled water to three parks in Apple Valley.

The reclaimed water will be used only for irrigation of grass and plants, and it will be moved through pipelines to Lenny Brewster Park, Civic Center Park and Thunderbird Park, according to a statement on the town’s website.

Work is expected to be completed in March 2020.

“This project will save the town a lot of money in the future,” said Mayor Larry Cusack in the statement. “By investing in infrastructure like this, we are better prepared to distribute our most precious resource and continue to be cost-effective.”

The recycled water will come from the Victor Valley Reclamation Authority’s Apple Valley Sub-Regional Water Recycling Facility. All three parks will continue to receive domestic water.

Apple Valley expects to save between $13 million to $22 million during forty years by using recycled water instead of retail-priced potable water, according to the statement.
