Caucus to deal with supply chain issues caused by coronavirus

The U.S. House of Representatives has set up a special Congressional Supply Chain Caucus, amid growing concerns about the worldwide spread of the coronavirus.

Congress already has several caucuses related to supply chains, including the air cargo, house manufacturing, digital trade and the U.S.-China Working Group Caucus, according to multiple reports.

The special caucus will be responsible for pulling together relevant information from those groups.

The outbreak of the coronavirus,  or COVID-19, is straining supply chains in the United States and around the world. Major retailers are having difficulty keeping items like hand sanitizer, bottled water and toilet paper in stock due to strained supply and high demand.

“American consumers have billions of interactions with consumer packaged goods each day, said Geoff Freeman, president and chief executive officer of Consumer Brands Association, in a statement. “Ensuring access and affordability of these products is a complex task, made more challenging by the emergence of coronavirus.”
