The Apple Valley Town Council has approved funding for 10 local nonprofits.
The organizations provide a variety of community services, including youth activities, senior services, fair housing services, clothing for students, homeless shelters, and food banks, according to a statement on the town’s website.
Funding comes from community development block grant funds, which the town receives every year from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This year’s allotment was nearly $600,000.
“These non-profits ensure hundreds if not thousands of Apple Valley residents receive services and resources to help improve their quality of life,” said Mayor Scott Nassif in the statement.
Donations include $9,920 to the Assistance League of Victor Valley, $5,822 to Feed My Sheep Ministries, a food bank, $9,220 to Child Advocates of San Bernardino, and $8,022 to the Inland Fair Housing and Mediation Board.
Fifteen percent of this year’s allocation – $89,510 – may be used for social services. The town’s residential rehabilitation loan program will receive $257,879 to improve Apple Valley’s housing stock and help low-income residents upgrade their home’s energy efficiency and accessibility, according to the statement.
