Apple Valley is asking Gov. Gavin Newsom to reopen some subregions of San Bernardino County.
The town council recently agreed to request that move of the administration, “rather than stalling operations within the county as a whole,” according to a statement on the town’s website.
“This is not about reopening early or before it is safe,” said Town Manager Doug Robertson in a statement on the town’s website. “Our item focuses on communities with lower rates of infection which should be allowed to reopen.”
The proposal is based on the county’s first district, which has a lower population and less density than other parts of the county. Apple Valley is part of the first district and is subject to tighter restrictions.
“We are issuing this statement as an official voice of the town to hopefully remedy our current restrictions and reopen quicker than originally expected,” Robertson said.
The board of supervisors this month passed a similar resolution.
In August, Newsom released a tier-based program that allows businesses, schools, and places of worship to reopen by county based on new cases, positive tests, health equity, and other metrics, according to the statement.
