Cousins named top CSUSB professor

Kim Cousins, a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Cal State San Bernardino, has been named outstanding professor for the 2019-20 academic year, the university’s highest honor.

An instructor at Cal State San Bernardino since 1991, Cousins was also named John M. Pfau Endowed Professor, named for the university’s founder, according to a statement on the school’s website.

Normally, the announcement is made during a surprise visit to the winner’s classroom or lab by President Tomás D. Morales. He is accompanied by university administrators, previous award winners, faculty and staff.

Because of COVID-19, Morales made the announcement this year during a virtual meeting of the College of Natural Sciences department chairs and leadership team, which Cousins was attending.

“I love teaching at Cal State San Bernardino,” Cousins said in the statement. “It’s those students that really make it worthwhile, and the great fellow faculty really make a huge difference. “I know there’s a lot of talented faculty on campus, and to get this award I am truly humbled.”
