An affordable housing community is under construction in Fontana.
The first phase of Fontana Courtplace is being built on a vacant lot at 11196 Sierra Ave., helped by a $4 million grant secured by Rep. Norma Torres, D-Ontario, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The project, which broke ground last month, will be built in two phases and cost an estimated $35 million. Its first phase will include 50 affordable apartments spread throughout two buildings and will feature community gathering spaces, a children’s playground, multipurpose room, a learning center, bike room, and laundry room.
Health and wellness services will also be available.
Construction is expected to be completed in the third or fourth quarter of 2027.
“This groundbreaking is a step forward in addressing Fontana’s affordable housing needs and creating a more equitable and inclusive community for all,” said Ann Silverberg, president and chief executive officer of Related California, a developer of affordable housing and a partner in the project.
“Public-private partnerships are essential in addressing the state’s affordable housing shortage, and we are proud to partner with Mayor Acquanetta Warren on our ninth affordable development in Fontana.”
A construction date for the second phase, which will add 56 units, has not been announced.
