More jobs available nationally

Some more good jobs news, this time from U.S. Department of Labor.

There were 4.5 million job openings on the last business day of April, up from 4.2 million at the end of March, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The hires rate, 3.4 percent, and the separations rate, 3.3 percent, were unchanged in April, according to the bureau, which is part of the labor department.

Separations include quits, layoffs and discharges, with total separation defined as turnover. Overall job openings rose in the private sector but were virtually unchanged on the government side of the ledger from March to April, according to the data.
