Unvaccinated San Bernardino County residents are eight times more likely to get COVID-19 and 32 times more likely to die from the disease than residents who are fully vaccinated, according to a statement on the county website.
Since Feb. 1, 177 unvaccinated residents have died of the virus, while only six vaccinated residents died after contracting the disease, county health officials reported.
Nearly 25,000 county residents who had not been vaccinated contracted COVID-19 during that time, compared to 3,288 vaccinated residents who became infected.
“I urge people who are sitting on the fence or who have not had a chance to get vaccinated to walk up to one of our vaccination sites as soon as possible or make an appointment and come in and get your shot,” said Dr. Michael Sequeira, county health officer, in the statement. “I don’t want anyone to end up hospitalized with severe illness or to die when we have a vaccine now fully approved by the FDA that offers protection for you and those around you.”
