Upland residents will soon be paying higher utility bills.
The City Council voted 4-1 last week to increase utility rates starting next month, hoping the extra revenue generated will help the city stabilize its budget and meet its financial obligations, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
Councilman Glenn Bozar cast the dissenting vote.
The new fees take effect July 1, the start of the fiscal year. It has been nearly 10 years since the city raised fees to help pay for increases in the cost of water, sewer maintenance and solid waste disposal.
A resident who pays $15.54 a month for a 35-gallon trash can will have to pay an additional 45 cents, to $15.99 a month, starting next month, according to the report.
