A grand opening ceremony is scheduled to be held on Sept. 30 at the city’s newest “drop-in” facility for homeless people.
The ceremony, scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m., will be held at the Palm Springs Access Center, 225 S. El Cielo Road.
The facility is sponsored by Palm Springs, the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, and Martha’s Village and Kitchen in Indio, one of the largest providers of homeless services in the Coachella Valley.
The facility provides “wrap-around” services, which include case management, individual and group counseling, crisis care, and special education. Since it opened on Aug. 31, 98 unduplicated clients have been served there, 73 case management meetings have been held and 46 people have used its shower facilities, according to a statement on Palm Springs’ website.
Mayor Christy Holstege, members of the Palm Springs city council, Linda Barrack, Martha’s Village chief executive officer, and Nona Watson, chamber chief executive officer, are scheduled to attend.
“Palm Springs is thrilled to partner with Martha’s Village and Kitchen to provide much-needed professional wraparound services for homeless residents on the west end of the valley,” Holstege said in the statement. “Martha’s is one of the largest and most respected providers of homeless services in Riverside County.”
