The Ontario Police Department has received a $470,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
Department officials plan to use the money in several areas, including DUI checkpoints and patrols, enforcement of the state’s hands-free cell phone law, bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement, and officer training and certification, according to a statement.
“Impairment, speeding, and other dangerous driving behaviors jeopardize the safety of other people on the road,” Ontario Police Chief Mike Lorenz said in the statement. “This funding allows us to provide necessary traffic enforcement measures with the goal of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our roads.”
The grant program is scheduled to run through September 2022.
