Bristow, Melgar named to foundation board

David T. Bristow and Jesse Melgar have been named to the Inland Empire Community Foundation’s board of directors.

Both Inland Empire natives will serve four-year terms, according to a statement released by the foundation.

Bristow is general counsel and executive vice president for the Entrepreneurial Corporate Group in Newport Beach, an umbrella organization for a business and investment portfolio.

He has worked as a deputy district attorney, deputy public defender, and a federal magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California

“The Inland Empire Community Foundation has been helping to improve the lives of those living in this region for 80 years,” Bristow said in the statement. “I look forward to continuing to improve the lives of all of those fortunate enough to live in the Inland Empire.”

Melgar works the University of California’s Goldman School of Public Policy, where he is director of engagement for the California 100, a statewide policy initiative.  He has worked in the executive branch of state government for nearly a decade, most recently serving as communications director and press secretary for Gov. Gavin Newsom during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Inland Empire Community Foundation is on the leading edge of what’s next in our region, and it continues to expand its role as a convener and advocate here at home, and throughout California,” Melgar said in the statement.

The community foundation is the oldest and largest organization of its kind in the Inland Empire. It has given out more than $100 million in grants and scholarships since it was founded in 1941, according to the statement.
