Murrieta is preparing for the 2022/2023 Community Development Block Grant program.
City officials expect to receive $590,000 during the current cycle, according to a statement on Murrieta’s website.
Fifteen percent of that – $88,500 – is reserved for nonprofits.
The block grants are presented to local governments by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. They’re used to pay for various projects, including affordable housing, developing suitable living environments and expanding economic opportunities, particularly for people with low or moderate incomes.
Funds must be used between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023.
“Murrieta is a resilient community, in part because of programs such as CDBG, which supports residents and contributes to the city’s goal of delivering responsive and effective community services,” City Manager Kim Summers said in the statement.
