Corona recognized for technology expertise

Corona has been named one of the top U.S. cities for the use of technology to solve social problems and improve public services.

The Riverside County city ranked number one among cities with a population of 125,00 to 249,99 in the 2021 Digital Cities Survey, which is conducted by the Center for Digital Government.

Winners in five categories were announced Nov. 16. The Center for Digital Government is a research and advisory institute at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Corona has placed 90 percent of its infrastructure in the government cloud, which makes it easier to protect the data.  Also, the city’s internet connection has been bonded into four different data centers, in different facilities, making it easier to switch to a backup facility.

“The Center for Digital Government congratulates this year’s winners for putting technology to good use toward improving the lives of constituents and strengthening the relationships they have with their partners,”  said CDG Vice President Phil Bertolini in a statement.

Riverside finished sixth in the 250,000-499,999 population category, while Rancho Cucamonga fifth the 125,000 to 249,999 population category, according to the survey.
