Riverside County is asking for volunteers to help count its homeless population.
More than 700 volunteers are needed for the annual count, which is scheduled to be held Jan. 26.
Volunteers from nonprofits, churches and other organizations will fan out across the county’s 7,300 square miles and survey homeless adults and youth in cities and unincorporated communities.
All volunteers should be able to communicate with homeless people and be familiar with the areas in which they’re working.
“This truly is a community effort” says Laura Gonzalez Rivera, a county social services planner, in a statement. “During the count, we will aim to help homeless individuals by providing links to services and referrals to beds available at shelters.”
All entities that receive money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development must conduct the count. The money is used to provide shelter and pay for other ways to fight homelessness.
Last year’s count was not completed because of COVID-19.
apart from this count what will you be doing to eleviate the situation when you only focus on a small . minority of homeless and leave the majority out in the cold. that to say the least is disengenuous.
