Perris moves to district elections

Perris will now conduct its elections by district.

The city council has ruled in favor of conducting its elections based on districts instead of at-large, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Four maps were considered before the final version was adopted, a six-month process that included a public outreach campaign.

Starting in November, the 111-year-old city will be divided into four districts. Voters in districts one and three will elect a resident from their district to represent them on the city council. Two years later, voters in districts two and four will repeat the process.

The mayor will continue to be elected at large.

All four districts have approximately the same population, and each leaves intact neighborhoods – called “communities of interest” by California – to ensure fair representation, according to city officials.
