Cal State University San Bernardino receives grant money

SB County to use state funds to build fire station, animal shelter

San Bernardino County will use $13 million in state money to buy fire engines and build a fire station and animal shelter.

The funding, from California’s recently adopted 2022-23 fiscal year budget, represents effort on the county’s behalf from Assembly members James Ramos, D-Highland, Tom Lackey, R-Palmdale, and Eloise Gomez Reyes, D-Grand Terrace, according to a statement on the county’s website.

Ramos secured $7 million to build the fire station near Rosena Ranch, an unincorporated community on I-15 near Cajon Pass, while Lackey obtained $1 million to buy equipment for the county fire protection district to use in Wrightwood.

Gomez Reyes, the assembly majority leader, led the effort to obtain for $4.5 million that the county will use to build the animal shelter in Bloomington, replacing the Devore shelter.

“San Bernardino County doesn’t just have great representatives in Sacramento, we send champions who fight for us,” said Curt Hagman, chairman of the board of supervisors, in the statement.  “We value the partnership we have built with our state lawmakers as we work together to improve services and infrastructure.”
