Riverside to discuss redistricting

Riverside will discuss redistricting at a series of public meetings and workshops starting this month.

The first session is scheduled to be held at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at city hall before the city council’s Inclusiveness, Community Engagement, and Governmental Processes Committee, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Subsequent meetings, some of which will be virtual, will he held in each of the city’s seven council wards. Information regarding those sessions can be found at www.ReshapeRiverside.com.

In January, the city council passed the Reshape Riverside Redistricting Plan, and is now asking for public input regarding that plan.

Riverside’s charter requires the city’s council wards to contain roughly the same number of constituents. Any changes to ward boundaries must be completed by August 2023.

Every 10 years, following the federal census update, California is required to redraw its senate, assembly and board of equalization districts, so that each accurately reflects the state’s population, according to the statement.
