Riverside University Health System has been recognized by the federal government for delivering high-quality healthcare to low-income and uninsured residents in Riverside County.
The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, which reviews community health centers, awarded RUHS four Community Health Quality Recognition Badges, according to a statement on the county’s website.
“These badges are considered Oscars for health centers nationally,” said Dr. Shunling Tsang, the health system’s medical director of ambulatory quality, in the statement. “We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to providing first-rate healthcare to the underserved populations of Riverside County.”
RUHS was recognized for being in the top 20 percent of community health centers for providing first-rate care in behavioral, heart and diabetes treatment.
The three remaining awards were for increasing the number of patients who receive treatment by five percent, improving treatment in chronic disease and/or births among a racial or ethnic group and getting the maximum performance out of its health information technology services.
All of that was done during the pandemic. This was the first time the health system, the largest of its kind in the Inland region, received four badges in one year.
RUHS operates 14 health centers across Riverside County. It treated nearly 78,000 county residents last year, according to the statement.
