Homeless Crisis in Riverside

Palm Springs opens overnight homeless shelter

Palm Springs has opened a shelter to assist homeless people during the cold season.

The 15-bed facility at the Palm Springs Access Center opened earlier this month and will remain open through Feb. 28, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The facility, at 225 El Cielo Road, is a partnership between the city and Martha’s Village & Kitchen. It’s open from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily and will assist anyone in need, with beds provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Meals and hygiene items are provided for no charge.

Founded in 1990, Martha’s Village & Kitchen is based in Indio. It’s one of Riverside County’s largest providers of assistance to homeless and impoverished people, helping more than 8,000 individuals a year, according the organizations websites.
