Mike Smith has been named head of Rancho Cucamonga’s law enforcement.
Smith replaces Ernie Perez, who was recently named deputy chief of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, according to a statement on the city’s website.
A 24-year veteran of the sheriff’s department, Smith held his first patrol assignment in Rancho Cucamonga in 2002. By 2012, Smith had worked his way up to sergeant, having worked in the High Desert Detention Center, West Valley Detention Center, Fontana Station, and the Coroner’s Division.
Smith, a longtime Rancho Cucamonga resident, has held administrative and operational positions at the sheriff department Rancho Cucamonga station, according to the statement.
Rancho Cucamonga contracts with the sheriff’s department for all of its law enforcement services.
I’ve lived in rancho Cucamonga for 44 years. I sure hope he changes the way it was the when he was coming up in the ranks. I also pray he has had proper training not only pertaining to police policies laws but more importantly trained in classes that educate on race and equality. Big big problem here.

My uncle just got scammed by people pretending to be special agents. Over $50,000.00 Upon going to the station my uncle got another call and again threatened him and his son. They wanted more money. The crazy part of it is they came to his home for the first one, so he would have come back today if they set him up. He lived in a senior trailer park, with one way it and out. You would think that our local law enforcement in Rancho don’t want or care to try to stop these guys from robing elderly of their money. My uncle is over 80 and is terrified. Today’s date is Friday July 11, 2024. This occurred this afternoon. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t even try and stop them.
