Montoya named SB city manager

Charles A. Montoya has been named San Bernardino’s city manager.

Montoya, who has spent 30 years working in municipal, state, and federal government, is expected to start work Oct. 30, according to a statement on the city’s website.

He will replace Charles McNeeley, who was serving as interim city manager.

Montoya served as city manager of Watsonville, Calif., and Avondale, Ariz. He was chosen to fill San Bernardino’s top administrative post following a nationwide search.

“Charles Montoya will be joining the Council and me to accomplish the revitalization of San Bernardino that we are currently embarking on,” said Mayor Helen Tran in the statement. “He shares our vision, shares our commitment, and has the skills to help us get there.”

The city council was expected to approve Montoya’s contract at its Oct. 18 meeting.
