Eight months after it opened, Corona held a grand opening ceremony at a former hotel that has been converted into a homeless facility.
Vista Dorada reached full capacity in June, not long after it opened, but a ceremony marking that milestone was postponed because of a COVID-19 outbreak at the facility, said Cindy Solis, Corona spokeswoman.
The ceremony was held Feb. 26.
The former Ayers Hotel is now a 53-unit structure at 1910 Frontage Road. It’s part of the city’s ongoing effort to provide an “A to Z” system of services to help reduce Corona’s homeless population, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Vista Dorada cost approximately $15 million to build. It’s the result of a public-private partnership between Corona, Riverside County and Adobe Communities, a Los Angeles nonprofit that owns and operates the facility.
“We know the greatest single way to reduce homelessness is to create more housing,” said Holly Benson, Adobe Communities’ president and chief executive officer, in the statement. “We’re excited to become a permanent member of the Corona community.”
