Victorville has received $6.3 million the California Department of Housing and Community Development to help the city fight homelessness.
The money from the department’s Encampment Resolution Fund may be used to remove homeless encampments or provide housing and support services for people with no place to live, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Victorville plans to use the funding to pay for more street outreach, upgraded Wellness Center operations, interim housing and rapid re-housing.
“Homelessness is the issue of most concern to our Victorville community, and we are grateful to the state for this grant that will allow us to provide shelter for the unhoused in our community,” said Victorville Mayor Liz Becerra in the statement.
During the past three years, Victorville has been awarded more than $40 million for its homelessness solutions programs, including a state Homekey Grant from the state that paid for most of the Victorville Wellness Center’s construction, according to the statement.
