San Bernardino has completed its second homeless encampment cleanup at a city park.
Crews from the city’s public works department and its housing and homelessness division, along with police officers and Salvation Army staff, removed 25 encampments from Wildwood Park, according to a statement issued on the city’s website.
The cleanup was done Dec. 5, one month after the city conducted its first park cleanup, at Wildwood Palm. Both cleanups were possible because of an injunction by a U.S. Federal Court which prohibited that action was lifted.
“At the cleanup, staff assisted the individuals to determine which items they would take with them, which items were trash, and which they wanted to have the city store for them for up to 90 day,” the statement reads. “Quite a few of the individual residents were willing to accept services offered by the city, county, and non-profit partners.”
More park cleanups will be held. Dates have not been determined.
Wildwood Parks covers 24 acres at 536 E. 40th St. It has four baseball diamonds, a playground, an exercise area, 23 picnic tables and eight barbecues, among other amenities according to the website.
