The Riverside University Health System has received $333 million from the state to expand mental health and substance abuse treatment in Riverside County.
The funding from the Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program will help increase access to acute behavioral health care, especially young people, according to a statement on the county’s website.
The grants were announced May 12. They are among the first distributed because of Proposition 1, a bond measure approved by voters in 2024 to help pay for finance behavioral health treatment beds, among other necessities.
“We are extremely proud to receive these funds to expand behavioral health in Riverside County as a whole,” said Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, county board chairman, in the statement. “We advocated with Gov. Newsom for (Proposition 1) knowing the great need we have for high-quality behavioral health services and the continuum of care.”
Proposition 1 seeks to expand California’s behavioral health infrastructure by building modern, community-based systems of care, according to the statement.
