San Bernardino selects new city manager

Eric Levitt has been named San Bernardino’s next city manager.

Currently Fullerton’s city manager, Levitt was approved by the city council during its June 4 meeting, according to a statement released by the city.

Levitt was selected following a nationwide search. He is scheduled to begin work Aug. 4.

“Today marks a significant moment for San Bernardino,” said Mayor Helen Tran in the statement. “I am proud to welcome Eric Levitt as our permanent city manager. Eric sees the potential of our city, shares our vision, and has the leadership skills to bring a stronger, more vibrant city to the residents we serve.”

Levitt has been Fullerton’s city manager for the past three years. During that time, he has helped develop a plan to attract retail to the city, increased funding for infrastructure and street improvements, and cut staffing vacancies.

Levitt has also been city manager of Alameda, Simi Valley, Janesville, Wis., and Sedona, Ariz.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the mayor, city council, and staff to improve the quality of life for the residents and businesses in San Bernardino,” Levitt said in the statement.  “They are passionate about achieving their vision for the community and I am honored to be able to work with them.”

San Bernardino’s city manager position has been open since May 2024, when Charles Montoya was terminated. It has conducted business with interim city managers since then.
