A Broomfield, Colo. -based company will provide high-speed internet access to more than 50,000 homes and businesses in Corona and Riverside.
Intrepid Fiber Networks will provide multi-gigabit broadband to both cities through a process called build fiber-to-the-premises infrastructure, in which internet access is goes directly to the user from a central source, according to a statement released by the company.
That process, which uses fiber-optic cables instead of traditional copper wiring, allows for faster internet service while creating more bandwidth.
This is Intrepid Fiber’s second California project – it set up a similar operation in Vista and San Marcos in San Diego County earlier this year – and its first in the Inland Empire.
“Corona and Riverside is an area we’ve been focused on since we entered California,” said Jack Waters, Intrepid Fiber’s chief executive officer, in the statement. “The growth in the region has outpaced the broadband infrastructure serving it, and households and businesses deserve better than what’s available today. We’re investing in a network that delivers speed, reliability, and choice this region needs to keep growing.”
Construction is expected to begin immediately, with service available by the end of the year. Cost of the project was not disclosed.
