Two years after it was damaged by fire, San Bernardino skate park is again up and running after undergoing $1.8 million in repairs.
The Eastside Skate Park at Speicher Family Memorial Park reopened June 12 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by about 75 people, including Mayor Helen Tran and council members Sandra Ibarra, Mario Flores and Treasure Ortiz, according to Jeff Kraus, city spokesman.
Opened in 2009, the skate park was closed three years ago after ramps and other accessories were damaged by fires.
After consulting with some local skaters, the park was redesigned and rebuilt in partnership with New Line Skateparks Inc. in British Columbia.
The new design includes elements for novice and advanced skateboarders. The park has been in use for about one month; the ribbon-cutting ceremony marked its official reopening, according to Kraus.
