Palm Springs has opened a temporary public library that will serve the city while a permanent library is being renovated.
The 6,000-square-foot site at Rimrock Plaza, a grocery-anchored shopping center at Gene Autry Trail and Palm Canyon Drive, opened Aug. 25, according to a statement on the city’s website.
In June, the city council approved a three-year lease on the storefront property. The city’s library at 300 Sunrise Way is expected to reopen in the summer of 2028.
The temporary facility will open at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday. It will close at 6 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and at 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It will be closed on Sunday.
Teen and adult programs will continue at various locations, including the Welwood Murray Memorial Library, at 100 S. Palm Canyon Drive and the Mizell Senior Center, 480 S. Sunrise Way, according to the statement.
