Rancho Cucamonga has received a state grant it will use to improve its Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Program.
The $157,216 from the California Office of Traffic Safety will help pay for education, outreach, and community engagement, according to a statement released by the city.
Activities will include e-bike safety courses, sessions that teach kindergarten students how to ride safely, distribution of helmets to needy children, community and school education presentations, and group bike rides that stress safe riding.
“The safety of people walking and biking on our roads is a top priority,” said Stephanie Dougherty, OTS director, in the statement. “Everyone moves, and not always by car. It’s important that we invest in efforts to protect people walking, biking and rolling that helps establish a strong traffic safety culture.”
The grant originated with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the statement.
