The Riverside Police Department has received three state grants totaling nearly $496,000 that it will use to promote traffic safety.
Funds from the California Office of Traffic Safety will pay for traffic enforcement, motorcycle safety training, and child passenger safety education through September 2026, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“This funding will enhance our ability to keep Riverside’s roads safe for all users,” said Sgt. Daniel Macias in a statement. “Through a combination of enforcement and education, we aim to reduce serious injuries and fatalities.”
Four hundred and fifty thousand dollars will be spent to help pay for DUI checkpoints, patrols that look for distracted drivers, enforcement of speed and traffic signal infractions, and community safety and officer training programs.
The remaining funding will be spent on the Ride to Live motorcycle safety program ($21,000) and expansion of the department’s Child Safety Seat Education Program ($25,000). The latter allow the department to provide child safety seat inspections, education classes, technician training, and distribution of free car seats needy families, according to the statement.
