Community center renovation begins

Work has begun on the Cesar Chavez Community Center in Riverside.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Nov. 15 at 2060 University Ave., according to a statement on the city’s website.

Built in 1928, the structure in Bobby Bonds Park will undergo an extensive upgrade, including structural improvements, updating of its public event spaces, and improved accessibility. It will also be brought up to meet modern building codes.

In September, the city council approved $19.7 million for the project, which is expected to be completed next September, according to the statement.
