Cal State San Bernardino has opened a much-anticipated Performing Arts Center.
More than 400 people attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 4 at the facility, which university officials hope will become a focal point for the arts in San Bernardino County, according to a statement on the school’s website.
“Through this building, we will be able to host professional touring shows and performers on campus,” university President Tomás D. Morales said in the statement. “This will bring the spotlight of Southern California’s global entertainment industry here to Cal State San Bernardino, increasing collaboration and post-graduation employment opportunities for our students.”
The Performing Arts Center at Cal State San Bernardino covers 73,300 square feet and cost $127 million to build. Funding was provide by the California State University Board of Trustees. The project took three years to build, after more than two decades of lobbying by the school’s theater and music faculty, according to to the statement.
