Arrest made in connection with Ontario warehouse fire

A Highland man has been arrested in connection with an arson fire at a large Ontario warehouse April 7.

Chamel Abdulkarim, 29, an employee at the 1.2-million-square-foot Kimberly-Clark facility near Merrill and Hellman avenues, taken into custody early Tuesday after being reported missing from the warehouse-distribution facility, according to multiple reports.

Abdulkarim was reportedly an employee of NFI Industries, a third-party distribution company that operates the Ontario facility.

Abdulkarim was not an employee of Kimberly-Clark, a multinational company based in Irving, Texas, that produces mostly paper products, according to a statement released by that company.

Ontario Fire Department crews responded to the fire around 12:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke flames at the warehouse, and heavy smoke coming from the roof. No one was injured in the blaze, according to reports.
