Riverside City Manager Mike Futrell is leaving the city to take the same position in Pasadena.
Futrell, who has been Riverside’s top executive since January 2023, helped lead the city out of the post-pandemic era, while strengthening its finances, and reaffirming its AA+ credit rating, according to a statement on Riverside’s website.
Futrell also pushed for the construction of a library on the east side, development of the Northside Agricultural Innovation Center, and renovation and expansion of the historic Museum of Riverside.
He was also instrumental in the construction of a new police department headquarters.
“Mike Futrell understood the potential of Riverside’s economic assets, particularly our airport and emerging innovation sectors, and he worked to align the organization around that vision,” Mayor Pro Tem Steven Robillard said. “His leadership helped move forward projects that will have lasting impact on our local economy.”
No interim city manager, or a timeline for finding Futrell’s replacement, has been announced.
