Construction is underway on the West End Regional Navigation Center in Fontana, a temporary stopping point that will help homeless people in western San Bernardino County.
A warehouse at 11109 Jasmine St. is being converted into a 200-bed facility that will help people living on the streets connect with social services, including permanent healthcare and permanent housing, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The center will also provide case management, treatment for mental health and substance abuse, and other support services.
San Bernardino County paid 11.6 million for the land. Construction is expected to cost about $10 million, and the annual $3 million operating costs will be shared by the county and Fontana, Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Rialto, and Upland.
The navigation center is expected to open in early 2027, according to multiple reports.
