Kyle Stjerne is Palm Springs’ new police chief.
The former deputy chief and a 24-year department veteran, Stjerne began his new duties Sept. 6, according to a statement on the city’s website.
He replaces Andy Mills, who retired.
Stjerne joined the department in 2002. He has been a detective sergeant, S.W.A.T. team leader and commander, a sergeant with the Internal Affairs Unit a lieutenant, and and a captain. He was named deputy chief in January.
“Kyle has grown into an outstanding leader, a seasoned problem solver, and a trusted public servant with a deep understanding of our Palm Springs community and values,” said City Manager Scott Stiles, in the statement. “I’m confident that he will build on the department’s foundation and continue the inclusive, community-centered policing and service that defines the Palm Springs Police Department.”
