Renovation of a multi-purpose building at Chaffey College in that serves as the Rancho Cucamonga campus’s unofficial gathering place has been completed.
The Michael Alexander Campus Center reopened recently after being enlarged 9,000 square feet, according to a statement on the school’s website.
The building, which had been under reconstruction since April 2024, includes 400 indoor seats, a dining hall, an employee dining pavilion and a conference room. The improvements were paid for by Measure P, a $700 million bond approved by voters in 2018 to pay for projects in the Chaffey Community College District.
“What you see here is a significant piece of Chaffey College history,” said Chaffey College President Henry D. Shannon in the statement. “I was a new leader on campus when the MACC was originally built, but the person for whom it was named was a Chaffey College veteran – a person whose legacy continues today.”
Michael Alexander served Chaffey College for 37 years as department chair for communication studies, dean and co-creator of the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, according to the statement.
