Local workforce boards get help from D.C.

Workforce investment boards in San Bernardino and Riverside counties have received $2 million from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The grants will be used for classroom and on-the-job training, and will also provide assistance to local businesses and people who are looking for a job, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

The training program reimburses employers for up to 50 percent of the wages they pay to a new hire. The program can last up to three months.

The money can also be used to train people for careers in logistics, health care, construction, manufacturing and energy. Those are the industries in the Inland Empire with the greatest demand for workers, the report stated.
